Since diamonds are a substantial investment, you must make an informed decision. You may want to look at a few types of diamonds, and enhanced diamonds are a great option. These types of diamonds are low color and very included diamonds (plentiful flaws) that go through specific treatments to improve them.

The diamonds’ improvements are in the diamonds’ color and clarity. Clarity enhanced diamonds differ from the natural diamond left as they are in their natural state. There are a few more things to learn about these diamonds;

Are Clarity Enhanced Diamonds Real?

As stated, these diamonds only differ from the other mined diamonds as they have improved their appearance. Clarity enhanced diamonds are real diamonds that are lower in clarity and color. These diamonds aren’t synthetic, as some people will have you think.

They also tend to be a bit cheaper, hence the constant question of their authenticity.

Worth of Clarity Enhanced Diamonds

Since these diamonds don’t have the desired clarity, they tend to be cheaper than their untreated and naturally clear counterparts. Other than going for a synthetic diamond as an alternative to mined diamonds, clarity enhanced diamonds are worth it.

They are also worth it, as only a few people can distinguish between naturally clear diamonds and CE ones. Whether you are looking for a stone with some resell value or something to make a fashion statement with, this diamond will work.

How to Tell a Diamond Has Been Clarity Enhanced

Even to a trained eye, it can be tough to identify a clarity enhanced diamond. There isn’t much you can do as you’ll need to rely on the jeweler’s word. One of the ways you can identify a CE diamond is by checking the certificate from the seller. Diamond dealers are also obligated to disclose this information in most cases.

You can also identify a clarity enhanced diamond by trying to see if the diamond appears ultra clean or super bright white. This method, though, can’t be trusted, especially if you have no experience with diamonds.

The durability of Clarity Enhanced Diamonds

There’s a huge misconception surrounding the durability of these diamonds due to the wordings’ enhanced diamond’, but that shouldn’t worry you. Even though the enhancements may wear off at some point, the diamonds are as durable as untreated diamonds.

Types of Diamond Clarity Enhancements

Clarity can be done in four ways depending on the diamonds’ inclusions.

Deep Boiling

This is the popular type of clarity treatment diamonds goes through. It is done when a diamond has black inclusions that reach the stone’s surface. The diamonds are boiled in an acidic solution under deep pressure.

Fracture filling

This is when microscopic silicon coupled with other compounds is used to fill inclusion cavities. This is the best method when the diamond has feather-type empty cavity inclusions.

Special Laser drilling

Here, a microscopic thin layer is burned on the surface of the diamond to get to the inclusions.

Laser Drilling

Laser drilling isn’t as fine-tuned as the special laser, but it’s helpful to reach inclusions that don’t reach the surface of the diamond. This method sometimes combines deep boiling to remove and clear the inclusion.

Conclusion

Enhanced diamonds are as real as the untreated ones but cheaper. Most dealers wouldn’t recommend them as the enhancement may wear off at some point. While on a budget, talk to some of the best dealers in your area to get a clarity enhanced or untreated diamond within your price range.
